It has been the philosophy of OYARB to identify and reaching key vulnerable population, empower them, educate them on risk behaviors (alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual activities) and having a unique understanding of the challenges facing adolescent girls, women Youth and communities and how to best mobilize, engage, and motivate to lead changes. The community outreach workers and peer educator model is used to mobilize, organize and link key vulnerable populations to access service providers and ensure that participation of the community is fully fledged and vulnerable community attain self-reliance. It has been successful to meet specific needs of groups including people living with HIV/ AIDS, people with Hepatitis B and C, Drug addicts, Female Sex Worker, alcoholism and providing education on communicable and non-communicable diseases for healthier generation. Our Achievements · Identified and reached key and vulnerable population (KVP) to know their rights in health issues and escorting IDUs females and males for Medical Assistance Treatment (M AT) clinic for psychological support and treatment by using METHADONE at Muhimbili National Hospital Mwananyamala and Tumbi referral hospitals. · Raised awareness on drugs, build capacity of community outreach workers using comprehensive package and deliver information on HIV/AIDS, STls, TB, Hepatitis B & C and harm reduction education.
· Drug users who are recovered through Medical assistance therapy (MAT) have enhanced their own entrepreneurial skills and established business activities for self-reliance, employed in various institutions, working as gardeners at Muhimbili National Hospital. Working as Community outreach workers who facilitate the identification of youths who are still using drugs and escort them for HIV testing and counseling (HTC) and methadone treatment.
· Succeeded to establish groups of recovery addicts known as Kibaha Methadone Family (KIMEFA), SEYOLB ADA, ATM, JUHUDI, JITIHADA, JITEGEMEE and Tonga Methadone Family (TAMEFA) for the aim of empowering key vulnerable population groups who are under Medically assisted treatment (MAT) service with entrepreneurship skills and being able to overcome social-economical challenge for self-reliance. |
